Do Vegetarians And Vegans Think They Are Better Than Everyone Else?

Intersting question and article on NPR

Vegans Think They Are Better Than Everyone Else?
http://www.npr.org/blogs/13.7/2012/08/30/160117028/do-vegetarians-and-vegans-think-they-are-better-than-everyone-else
Here are my words on that issue:
I get that too sometimes, but I don't worry about it because I think I know what it really is about. It's about changing the subject, because the average meat/egg and dairy eater does not want to hear that their choices are bad for them and for animals.
To attack the messenger is as old as the world.

It is much easier to make vegans and vegetarians out to be "holier then thou" then to take a critical look at their own behavior.

I was once a meat/egg and dairy eater and I admit that I had for a while, the same attitude. The only difference is today that I eventually, after facts and truth, have been presented to me changed my behavior and fully admit that my previous behavior was wrong. So the difference lies in the willingness to learn and to change for the better.

Those that change the subject are stone walling the real issue. they don't want to hear the truth, it would mean facing the truth about their own behavior and having to make a choice, convince over compassion, appetite over compassion, selfish needs over compassion, a lifetime of habit over compassion. Seems a difficult choice, but not when your heart is open wide for compassion and life.

Imagine if someone said to an average meat/egg and dairy eater who otherwise lives an exemplary live "Do you think you are better that those child molesters that you are so upset about?" Do you think you are better than these robbers that hold up convenient stores?" Do you think you are better than these murderer that you send to jail?" Of course nobody would even ask these questions, because we except that we are all better than someone who engages in these behaviors.

Only because torturing animals and abusing them, so we can have meat, eggs and dairy and fur and leather, is not a crime (yet), Vegans are supposed to all fall in line and shut up about cruelty.

Should the abolitionist have shut up about slavery.? Should Dr. King have shut up about racial issues and mistreatment and discrimination of blacks? Was he holier than thou? Of course not... he was simply RIGHT in his fight! He was a visionary who knew right from wrong. So do Vegans. We are visionaries who know right from wrong when we see it and we act upon it.

History tells us that just because something isn't illegal that does not mean it is right or won't someday be illegal and universally accepted as unethical.

Are those that denounce and fight racism "holier than thou?" Are those that denounce and fight sexism "holier than thou"? Nobody would ask those question, except when it comes to food choices, which translate to Vegans in to choices of compassion over cruelty.

Vegans chose to raise their voices in defense of animals and actually in defense of humans as well, that are often suffering the fall out of a meat/egg and dairy world.

So we are not holier than thou we are just making better choices and our argument is on the right side of history, just like meat eater would agree it is wrong to kill humans, we simply know it is wrong to kill anybody and we don't apologize for it.

Find Your Inner God Power and Embrace Nonviolence!

The bible was written and edited by a handful of powerful PEOPLE. I question their motives. Much of what was first written came about at a time when most people were illiterate. The words in this book can not be trusted. Translation after translation leads to misrepresentation! It's the biggest brain washing scam in the history of mankind that has been the catalyst for all the “ism” then and now. I have a thought that even the Church in Rome KNOWS THIS.

EVOLVEing must include the rejection of violence and oppression of all kind, starting with the violence promoted by religions. If you want to be close to God look inside yourself and listen to your heart! The God power is the genius that embodies all the knowledge, that is in you at the time of your birth. You hear the message every day. When you see suffering and you feel moved to tears, that is the God power within you. You don’t need a book, or a Church,  the knowledge lives in your heart and your brain and body is your Church.

If you see something that makes you feel very, very bad, so bad that you want to look away and pretend it does not exist, don’t look away but instead reject violence and act according to what your heart tells you. All hearts are vessels of Love but  corrupted societies over millennia, have been able to mislead the hearts of mankind. There is time to change and take the loving kind and compassionate path.

A true loving God will never tell you it’s OK to kill, neither a person nor an animal, nor a baby born or unborn. EMPATHY (the ability to feel the other’s pain and suffering) is a gift from the God power, given through the miracle of nature and life by birth. Don't stomp on your own heart because of a book. Society has been led astray,  don’t trust what Churches give you permission to do.  Be the change you want to see. If you want to see a non violent, peaceful world start with yourself. Find your inner God and live a life of nonviolence. Go Vegan!

Georgia Aquarium's Shameful New Show

"Try to imagine living in the same cramped place for the rest of your life," writes Jen. "Animals who are genetically designed to swim the vast oceans are no more able to adjust to lifelong captivity than we are. That's why prison is considered society's harshest punishment."
_______________________________________________
Georgia Aquarium the most disgusting exploit in Georgia! Greedy money whores are using the idea of Conservationism to exploit animals, take them out of their natural environment and for no other reason then MONEY! Shame on Georgia. When this aquarium was built, they played it all up in the media s some great conservationist venture. People fall for it, without understanding the true natural behavior of these animals. It's a disgusting exploitation facility. I urge consciences people that love animals not to buy tickets. show your Love for animal by not participating in these exploits!!!

Fear not the Truth! The Truth will set your conscience free!

When it comes to animal rights and being vegan some people get very defensive. They are afraid of facing the truth, which deep in their hearts many know already. Vegans challenge everything they know and take for granted. Our message forces them to think about things, they rather not know and think about. I know, because I was one of them.

The Vegan message is like the invisible feral cat, that you rather not see because when you do, you see it's limping, starving and desperate. It hurts your heart and you want to help. People are afraid that they won't be able to handle changing their lives drastically. So they lash out and cover up their fear with aggression toward Vegans and our message. I know because that is what I used to do.

I hope that behind all the anti vegan bravado secretly lies a conscience and people will change once they been exposed to the truth, again and again and again. Like a steady drop of water over time, carves a hole even in to a stone. I hold on to that, because it worked on me.

As the World Changes, we are all part of the whole.

Having been born in France to a French father and a German mother and having lived in France and Germany and traveled to many places in Europe, I see myself as a world citizen, not so much just as a US citizen even though I obtained the US citizenship and I love America for the most part. I really find it odd that a person must have a citizenship.

Are they afraid that if more people saw themselves independent of a national citizenship they lose control over them?

What if I simply wanted to be a citizen of the world? Why do country governments want to take ownership of a person, why do they try to say that you are not patriotic, if you don't fall in line with traditional doctrines. What are they afraid of? What is wrong with loving and learning about the world, other countries, other peoples?

That does not imply that I agree with all these other countries and like everything they do, but it opens the door to dialogue and understanding, when you learn about them and that is a good thing in my book.

I am far from being a person that glorifies other cultures. I was raised by a step father who was an Armenian from Turkey and I learned lots of great things about Turkey because of him, but also not so great things. The patriarch attitude toward women and girls under which I suffered as a child for example. The sexism so to speak. Bad people live next to good people all over the world.

I praise and I criticize anyone and everyone, if I feel I have to do so in order to bring attention or speak my mind, and I back it up with facts, that's what I try to do.

I like a lot about America but there is plenty not to like too. I have lived in other places so I see things from different perspectives. Sometimes when I meet people that lives in one area their whole live, never traveled, I find that they can be very prejudice and boring really. I really feel a bit sorry for them. You have one life to live and the vessel is so empty at the end of the journey.

I honestly can't say that there is any country in the world that I think is GREAT or PERFECT. All countries and cultures have the same common threat that often ruins everything. "TRADITIONS"!

There are nice, fun, innocent traditions that make life colorful and exciting and differentiate one country from another. But many "Traditions" are nothing more that actions based on prejudice and ignorance and superstition, that involve abuse and oppression of some life-form, race or the opposite or other sex.

These "Traditions" are upheld and spread by, as I call them "The old Guard" who is actively brain washing innocent children in to their thinking, and the as I call them "willful silent" of the world, who are inactive and stand by out of fear or inconvenience, let things happen.

I won't count off all the "Traditions" that belong on the trash pile of History, if you follow me you figure it out, or all the countries that have them because the list is too long, just think of a country and you probably right, starting with your own.

The indoctrination in to these horrible "Traditions" takes place on the family table at dinner time, activities during so called family time, activities during vacation time, in our heads where we abandon compassion, logic and common sense, and when we don't stand up and raise our voice to what we know to be wrong. Silence is as destructive as actions are, inactivity is complicity.

I am encouraged by the young faces in the crowds all over the World that I see, especially of Animal Rights Activist groups, the children that are fighting too, standing next to their parents, generations fighting for the planet, the flora and fauna that is part of their future.

It gives me great pleasure and hope to see that.

Circuses with animals are places of pain not joy!

I know you love animals , that is why you will read on and think about these words. When the circus come to town you may want to look for a different type of entertainment. One that does not involve cruelty to animals. There are plenty of things to do that doesn't involve animal slavery and misery. Circuses are places of delusion... not illusion, places of pain, not joy... you are taken for a ride in a place where animals have no rights. Elephants are tortured with bullhooks 'till the bleed, and you clap and giggle, when they sit or walk in a circle... your child's eyes glee with joy.

What if your child looked behind the curtain before opening and saw and heard the cries of these animals? Would they look at you and wonder what is going on here. Mamma why are these Elephants crying, why do they have blood on their faces and legs? What would you say? "Oh they don't feel pain, it's just an animal!" Is that how you want your child to grow up? Insensitive to the suffering of others? Remember next time you see an Elephant doing a circus trick, they do that out of fear of pain. Pain and Chains is ALL THEY KNOW and that is what they go back to after you had your happy fill!

Alerts! IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED
Stop Senseless Trapping of our Wolves and other Wildlife in Montana!
Public Comments needed to FWP, best by May 10 Dear Friend,

Your comment is needed against wolf trapping and snaring on public lands. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) will present the proposal to allow a wolf trapping season on our public lands on May 10 in Helena! Click here to read all about it...

TO SUBMIT COMMENTS (Note: Comments must be received by May 20, better by May 10 the latest. The commissioners’ names are: Ron Moody, Bob Ream, Dan Vermillion, A.T. Stafne and Shane Colton.
E-mail:  fwpcomm@mt.gov

I just emailed my comment which reads like this: To the attention of: Mr. Ron Moody, Mr. Bob Ream, Mr. Dan Vermillion, Mr. A.T. Stafne and Mr. Shane Colton.

Dear Sirs,

My name is Ginette Callaway. I have lived in the State of Georgia for over 20 years and I am looking to maybe move to Montana in the near future if possible. I am an artist (I paint) and I love the natural environment and wilderness. Everything I have seen about Montana is so wonderful. The nature and land, it's filled with Life and incomparable beauty. In my search for property in Montana I came across an issue that disturbs me very much. I read about the trapping issue. I have seen what trapping does to those poor souls caught in traps. Maybe I am naive, but for some reason I hoped such things are of the past. I see it is not. It is beyond me why we still do such barbaric things. There is no need to make animal suffer in trapping. I know, there are many that bring up the argument of tradition. Throughout human history, many traditions have found their way to extinction. Some sooner than later, we simply learned better ways. Trapping too belongs on the trash pile of history.

I could go in to all the different arguments pros and cons about trapping, but to me these arguments distract from what truly matters. What should matter is that we need to evolve as humans and treat our fellow earth travelers with kindness, dignity and compassion. Every feeling human would agree, none of that comes to mind when we look at what trapping is, A cruel way of hurting living beings. Please I implore you to think deeply about this. Montana is such a place of spirit, soul, magnificence, in the eyes of anyone who sees it. Let us not mare this beauty with the ugliness of trapping. Let us agree that we can do without it in this new century. I believe anything is possible. Let Montana be as big in it's compassion for animals as it is in beauty and let Montana be a trailblazer and end trapping. It would be a shining example for others to follow! Thank You! Respectfully Ginette Callaway

Today I will also forward my letter to Montana Department of Tourism, too. Tourism is the 2nd largest industry in Montana and they need to continue to hear what impact trapping has on visitors choosing to come here.

Stop Atlantic City from Bringing back Diving Horse Show

UPDATE

How We Won

Feb 16, 2012

After worldwide condemnation of a proposed horse diving act in Atlantic City, horse advocates are now celebrating the announcement that there will be no horse diving at Steel Pier this summer.

Jennifer, the woman who created the online campaign, says, "I knew we had a chance to stop Steel Pier from reopening the diving horse shows, but I didn't know in less than two weeks 50,000 people would sign the petition and get this shut down. Thanks to everybody who signed and shared the petition and kept contacting! We did it!!"

The Editorial Board of the Star-Ledger, New Jersey's largest newspaper, chimed in to say that "no one wants to buy bathtub hootch or dodge bullets from Al Capone on the Boardwalk today. The horse-diving act belongs in the same ash bin of history. We’re glad the owners of the Steel Pier came to the same conclusion."

In this interview Mr. Catanosa says paraphrasing, that he does not see anything wrong with this, it's tradition and nobody shown him any proof that the animal are hurt in any way.

I want to ask Mr. Catanos "What kind of proof does a person need to make them realize this is wrong? Just because some people see nothing wrong with it and would pay money to see it, doesn't make it OK to do this. It being a tradition is also not an excuse. It used to be a tradition to enslave people, should we bring that back too, because some people may not see anything wrong with it? The absence of proof that the animal is suffering is not proof that the animal is not suffering. A compassionate person would, in the absence of proof either way, be prudent and may I say enlightened, to assume the animal, with the ability to feel pain and emotional stress (and we do KNOW that sentient beings feel all that) but without the ability to speak is probably suffering in silence.

Sign petition to stop this cruel and unnecessary freak show from being reintroduced. This sort of exploitation of animals has to place in a compassionate society! I really doubt that most people really enjoy watching such a cruel show.

Tell Atlantic City that bringing back Horse diving (making Horses them jump of a 60 meter steel structure. A terrifying ordeal for a horse) is not in the best interest of Atlantic City. it's a cruel idea and of course, as with most crazy ideas like this, designed to RAISE REVENUES, the animals be damned.
